Christmas with Irving James & Friends was a various artists EP produced in 2013 by Irving James and released digitally to radio stations in the US, Australia and the UK.[1]. The project was distributed by Brooklyn online music distribution service Tunecore and sold on iTunes.
Christmas was unusual, first in that James insisted each song be independently mastered to preserve the nuance of several elite mastering engineers, and second in that it featured decorated major-label artists and instrumentalists like Andy Timmons, P.H. Naffah, and Sherry Finzer, as well as mixers who had previously won multiple Grammys. (Eight-time Grammy winner Jay Newland agreed to mix Silent Night, while two-time Grammy winner Helik Hadar mixed Noel, etc.)
As mentioned, each song on Christmas was sent to a different elite mastering engineer, including Tom Coyne at Sterling Sound for Gloria, Vlado Meller at Masterdisk for Noel, and Adam Ayan at Gateway Mastering for We Three Kings. Lead vocalists were recruited from the US and UK, including London native Sam Robson, Phoenix artist Morris Alan and former member of Bering Strait, Lydia Salnikova.
